Cityhood Bills Passed Into Laws

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Government, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. played a pivotal role in the passage of Senate Bills 2761 and 2931, and House Bills 4730 and 4729, converting the municipalities of Imus and Bacoor into component cities to be known as the City of Imus and City of Bacoor, respectively. These bills became Republic 10161 and 10160 after signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III on April 11, 2012.

Marcos junks, revives ARMM poll bill

Marcos also asserted in his report that “making the promise of reform in the ARMM conditional and the condition is the surrender of a fundamental right to elect their own leaders is a resounding no from the committee…the promise of reform and the right of suffrage are not inconsistent with each other.”

Senator Marcos is still in Marawi City, where he has been holding consultations to get a pulse of the sentiments of the voters in the region. But he was scheduled to submit his report to the plenary by Monday at the earliest, which is cutting it much too close.
